Meet the Board | Chris
One of our longest serving board members, meet Chris.
Hello, I’m Christine Stansbery.
"I started coming to POBSA meetings, representing the Sidney Museum and Arts Association when Don Ryan was president and we met at Moon Dogs (now Brickhouse).
At the time, I was the treasurer on the board at SMAA and the president wanted us to connect and outreach into the community. My choice was either POBSA or Chamber. Since I didn't mind morning meetings and the president did, I picked POBSA.
I was working full-time in Seattle at a mutual fund company as the chief compliance officer (which is why I am so rules-oriented) and commuting on the ferry. POBSA was a fun distraction.
When the treasurer at POBSA wasn’t able to continue, I was asked to take on that task and join the board at POBSA. Since I had plenty of experience as a non-profit treasurer - for the Sidney Museum and Arts Association and the Soroptomists of Port Orchard Foundation - I agreed. I had no idea no one else would ever want to be treasurer (so thank you Ludy for taking it on!). I agreed to stay on as Treasurer for Bobbie Stewart, Kathleen Wilson, and Coreen Haydock and through those years also worked on helping to develop the social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest), Mailchimp, the website and marketing campaigns, and event planning. I also helped form a joint marketing effort called Explore Port Orchard with Fathoms, the Chamber, POBSA, Visit Kitsap, and the Port of Bremerton, which was eventually taken over by the Chamber. I have enjoyed my time on the board at POBSA, learning so many new things, getting to know the businesses and helping out with events and planning, working with some truly dedicated people, watching Port Orchard grow, and having a small part in helping make that happen."
