Meet the Board | Melanie
hello!
I’m Melanie Winnett,
Owner of Create it Woodworks and I moved my family of 6 to Kitsap in 2004 to manage a prominently military apartment community. We moved to Port Orchard in 2014. I love living a block away from the beach, Bay Street, foot ferry, and all that downtown has to offer.
My husband Brad and I grew up in the same neighborhood in So. Seattle. I graduated from Foster HS and Univ. of Alaska, studying ports, harbors, and marinas. I began work at the Port of Poulsbo in 2010 and became the first female Harbormaster in 2019. In 2022, I began work with the S'Klallam Tribe Health Clinic.
My hobbies include music and stamp collecting, I began collecting stamps at 8 years old. I have loved working with wood since Middle School. Making my first piece in 7th grade- an oak wall decor planter with a light fixture at the top. My biggest joy when vending my woodwork is all the conversations with people.
I hope to bring a slightly different perspective to the Board and ideas that bring our local community and outside communities to visit downtown Port Orchard! It's changed a lot in the short time we have lived here. With the revamping of POBSA and our efforts in community events, I'm hopeful POBSA members will engage and join a committee this year!
P.S. Grandkids are the best!
