Meet the Board | Susan
hello!
Hello, I’m susan!
I’m originally from Oregon where I attended business college to become a COBOL programmer (widely used in applications deployed on mainframe computers, such as large-scale batch and transaction processing jobs), in case you were wondering!
I moved to Washington in 1976, settling in Seattle where I met my husband Ken. We moved our family to Port Orchard on New’s Year’s Day in 1992 and felt at home right away.
In addition to my early technology roots, I was an instructor introducing students and their families to internet resources (World Wide Web!) and helped local teachers connect with classrooms across the nation for shared projects.
I have also been a professional hand-quilter, a live-in staff member with a probation-based halfway house, a vocalist in a bluegrass band, and a tour bus guide, I believe in variety!
Most recently I worked at the Port Orchard Library as the branch’s Public Services Supervisor, retiring in 2021. One of the best things about working at the library was serving people, from helping someone navigate a webpage to encouraging a young reader and everything in-between.
Now I enjoy having the time to be involved in the Port Orchard community on a broader scale.
